There’s another way for a bubble to end, but it practically never happens. Responsible bankers and lenders could prevent the bubble’s formation by simply not lending ridiculous amounts. It almost never happens for the same reasons that people buy overpriced houses: greed and our social programming to follow the herd. If all your banker buddies are making big bucks writing loans to anyone who can fog a mirror, then you’ll be rewarded for doing the same. Nobody wants to be the lone, unpopular voice urging restraint when the crowds are going wild.
The most important thing is how these mass public shooters pick targets where they know that victims can’t defend themselves. Over 98 percent of the mass public shootings in the U.S. since at least 1950 have occurred in “gun-free zones,” places where general citizens aren’t allowed to defend themselves. All the mass public shootings in Europe and Canada have occurred in these gun-free zones. It is hard to ignore the explicit statements made by these killers when they have explained why they have picked the targets that they have. These killers pick places where people won’t have guns to protect themselves and others.
If you thought that life in America’s college campuses had reached peak crazy, you’d be wrong. It turns out that the politically correct culture which has entangled our upper education system, is taking a turn for the Orwellian (if it hadn’t already).
